Contact Lenses- Are they Suitable for Children?

Contact lenses are a very viable alternative to wearing glasses for children and can provide crisp, clear vision all day.

When can children start wearing contact lenses?

Some of our patients who wear lenses are as young as 9 years old. They relish the freedom that lenses now provide and enjoy the responsibility that comes with wearing them.

These days children view glasses as fashionable, but despite this, they can still be a hassle to wear.

This is most noticeable when they are playing sports; some children will even take their glasses off as they find them both a hindrance and a distraction. This affects their accuracy and overall performance, which puts them at a disadvantage.

Are there different types of contact lenses available?

Now, there are also overnight correction lenses that children can wear, called EyeDream. This corrects their vision whilst they sleep by gently reshaping the front of the eye. All they have to do is take the lenses out when they wake up. They can then enjoy crisp, clear, natural vision for the whole day.

The best news is that it is completely reversible if they decide to stop wearing the lenses. This makes EyeDream a great alternative to laser treatment, as it takes out the potential risks of surgery.

It is also a safer option for parents, as they can supervise their children when they use them. There is also the reassurance that their children are only wearing them at home, making it hard to lose them.

FREE Contact Lens Comfort Trial

We are hosting a day for free contact lens comfort trials for children on Friday 16th February. This will give you and your child the chance to find out everything you need to about contact lenses.

During this comfort trial, one of our opticians will insert a pair of soft contact lenses into your child’s eyes. They will be able to walk around and experience how comfortable wearing lenses can be. You can use this time to ask any questions that you might have about contact lenses.

At the end of the trial, the optician will remove the lenses from their eyes. You can rest assured that there is no obligation to book a contact lens consultation once the appointment is over.

Testimonial from a Happy Patient

Here are a few words from a young patient who started wearing contact lenses at the age of 11:

“Contact lenses have changed my life- I can play more sports without worrying about my glasses slipping down my face. Also daily contact lenses do not need cleaning like glasses do and you can see much better in the rain. Contacts are really great- they have helped me and I will definitely keep on wearing them.”

We only hold free comfort trial days every two years, so make sure you book your appointment before places go!

To find out more about the comfort trial day, please phone the team on: 01895 234563 or book a place, submit your details online at: www.eyewiseopticians.co.uk/contactlensopenday18.
